The Home Office has officially launched a brand-new, paid Priority Service for British Citizenship applications. Historically, you had to wait up to 6 months for a decision, with priority only given in rare, discretionary circumstances.

Now, you can fast-track your path to a British passport! Here is everything you need to know about the new rules:

The 30-Day Turnaround

If you use the Priority Service, the Home Office aims to process your application and make a decision within 30 working days (approx. 6 weeks) from the date of your biometric appointment.

The Cost

The service carries an additional Home Office fee of £500 per applicant on top of the standard citizenship fee (currently £1,839 for adults).

Three Critical Rules to Keep in Mind:

1. No Retrospective Upgrades: You must select and pay for the Priority Service at the time of your online submission. If you have already submitted your application, you cannot upgrade it later.
2. Complexity Matters: If your application is complex, requires extra background checks, or has historical tax/residence discrepancies, the Home Office may exceed the 30-day timeline without issuing a refund.
3. Scrutiny Remains the Same: Paying for priority only speeds up the timeline—it does not guarantee approval. Your evidence must still be completely flawless.
